A sacristan's role in the Mass is one of diligence, care, and respect. Sacristans prepare the sacred vessels for use during the Mass and assist the Deacon in purifying them at the conclusion of the Communion Rite and after Mass. They also serve as the leader for the other ministers serving at a particular Mass, staying in communicating with the Altar Servers, Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, and Ushers at all times. Sacristans also select parishioners who will present the gifts at the Preparation of the Altar. Those adults interested in serving in this ministry should contact the parish office.
